This collection contains biographical information, correspondence, research projects, class and employment information, contracting and consulting work records; trips, meetings, seminars and conference materials; committee work files, published materials, videotapes, audiotapes, and photographs. The bulk of this collection documents Heising's career, including her research work and class designs at Stanford, printed information concerning MIT, class records from Northeastern, and consulting jobs at laboratories throughout the world. This collection also contains articles pertaining to nuclear reactor management and women in science and engineering. The remainder of the series relates to Heising's travel and her family.

Carolyn DeLane Heising (b. 1952) received her B.A. (1974) in Applied Physics from the University of California at San Diego and her M.S. (1975) in Nuclear Engineering and Ph. D. (1978) in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University.
